RS Mk2/ST225 Cam Belt Change

Now available in our ENGINE SHOP. 

Maintenance is at the forefront of all Avid RS/ST owners. Making sure that their pride and joy is running at 100% is where we can help. The official replacement period for the Focus RS Timing belt is every 125,000 miles or every 10 years, whichever comes soonest. We know that this isn’t realistic and we recommend that the belt is changed before 70,000 miles or 7 years and then following that change we recommend that tuned Engines have a reduced timing belt change interval. We state that the Belt is then changed every 35,000 mile.
Should the timing belt become contaminated by Oil or other fluids by a Cam Seal failure or leaking Water Pump, or if you have any doubts about the condition of the belt or can see any damage, it is recommended that it is changed as soon as possible as a sensible precaution. Although, it is theoretically possible to change the timing belt without disturbing the position of the camshaft pulleys, doing this would not ensure totally accurate valve timing. We do not consider this to be acceptable practice on such a high performance engine.
We have invested in the Ford Cam Locking tool to guarantee that the valve timing is set exactly to the manufacturers specifications, ensuring perfect valve timing and optimum engine performance. As we’re specialists of the i5 engine we go further than all other specialist when changing your Cam belt. Below is an order of works that we follow when carrying out your Focus RS Mk2 Cam Belt Change .
  • Pre check Road test.
  • Report any fault.
  • Drain Engine Coolant.,
  • Strip engine down, including the Upper Cam Cover and Cam shafts.
  • Remove Lower Pulley, Cam Belt, Tensioners, Idler Wheel, Aux Belts.
  • Run all Parts through Hot, High Pressure wash.
  • Etch Primer and spray Top Cam Cover in Silver or Black.
  • Refit Cam Covers.
  • Fit new Cam belt with Tensioner. (Using Ford OEM Timing Tools)
  • Rebuild surround Trims.
  • Fit New Auxiliary Belts.
  • Refit Coolant reservoir and start engine.
  • Test Drive.
  • Valet interior and engine Bay.
All work recorded using digital camera.
As you can see this is of a higher specification package than that of your Main dealer and any other Tuning specialist in the country.
